The Yucatan government has published an official directive outlining the specifics for the upcoming vehicle plate and circulation card exchange (Canje de Placas) set to take place in the state. Issued in the evening edition of the Diario Oficial del Gobierno del Estado on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, the decree divides the vehicle fleet into eight groups to streamline the renewal process and minimize overcrowding.
Canje de Placas 2025: Key Dates and Group Division
- The Canje de Placas process will commence on Monday, June 2, 2025 and conclude on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
- To ensure an organized and efficient renewal process, vehicles will be categorized into eight groups according to the first letter of their plate numbers:
- Letters A and B: June 2 – June 5, 2025
- Letter C: June 6 – June 9, 2025
- Letter D: June 10 – June 13, 2025
- Letters E and F: June 16 – June 19, 2025
- Letter G: June 20 – June 23, 2025
- Letters H and I: June 24 – June 27, 2025
- Letter J: June 30 – July 3, 2025
- Letters K, L, M, and N: July 7 – July 10, 2025
- No renewal will be required for vehicles with plates featuring the letters O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, or Z, as they will not be due until 2026.
In addition to the Canje de Placas announcement, two other decrees (43/2024 and 44/2024) have been published in the Diario Oficial, granting partial or full exemptions on payment of licensing and permission fees for selected socio-economic sectors. Furthermore, the validity of vehicle plates and circulation cards expiring on December 31, 2024, has been extended until Saturday, May 31, 2025, to accommodate the new Canje de Placas timeline.
