Jakarta, Insertlive – Indonesian celebrity couple Hanung Bramantyo and Zaskia Adya Mecca recently celebrated Christmas in a unique and meaningful way. They attended the Christmas Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, Rome, Italy, surrounded by family.
This event was a highlight of their religious tour, which took them to several significant destinations. Hanung Bramantyo shared their experience via his Instagram account, expressing his excitement at the prospect of receiving the papal Christmas blessing from Pope Francis.
"Waiting for Pope Francis at the basilica for the papal blessing on Christmas is a moment I will cherish," Hanung wrote. He also mentioned meeting many Indonesian Christian pilgrims who were also celebrating Christmas in the Vatican.
Zaskia Adya Mecca also shared her experience, emphasizing the warmth and acceptance she felt from the Christian community despite wearing a hijab. She described the Christmas Mass as "well-organized and welcoming, with no awkward stares or unsociable behavior."
The couple also had the opportunity to meet an Indonesian priest who had lived in Rome for many years. This encounter, Zaskia recounted, was "heartwarming and insightful, opening our minds to new perspectives."
Their Christmas celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica, filled with sacred rituals, left them with precious memories. Besides being a chance for worship, their trip also provided a unique opportunity for cultural exchange with fellow Christians from around the world, enhancing their Christmas celebrations with loved ones.
