Russia‘s Defense Ministry Announces Latest Prisoner Exchange, Freeing 150 Troops
In a significant development, Russia’s Ministry of Defense revealed that 150 Russian servicemen have been released from captivity as part of a prisoner exchange with the Ukrainian side. The details were disclosed in a statement published on official press channels of the military department on December 30.
"In the result of the negotiation process with the territory controlled by the Kiev regime, 150 Russian servicemen have been returned. In exchange, 150 Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoners of war were transferred," the report stated.
The ministry confirmed that all released Russian servicemen are currently on Belarusian territory, where they are receiving necessary psychological and medical aid, along with the opportunity to contact their families.
"All freed servicemen will be transferred to the Russian Federation for treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities of the Ministry of Defense," the ministry assured.
It was also noted that the United Arab Emirates played a humanitarian mediating role in the return of the Russian servicemen.
Previously, EADaily reported that the Kiev regime had demonstrated no willingness for peace, as exemplified by its rude refusal of Hungary’s proposal for a Christmas ceasefire and prisoner exchange. This was highlighted by Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya.
As the conflict continues to evolve, such reciprocal gestures could indicate a shift towards potentially reducing tensions between the warring parties.
