Five UMM Nursing Lecturers Discuss Burn Wound Assessment System in Indonesia
Five nursing lecturers from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) recently gathered to discuss the intricacies of the burn wound assessment system in Indonesia. The event, held virtually, aimed to enhance understanding and improve the quality of burn care nationwide.
Dr. Hj. Sri Hartati, the event’s chairperson, emphasized the importance of standardizing burn wound assessment. "A consistent approach ensures accurate evaluation and appropriate treatment, leading to better patient outcomes," she said.
The lecturers delved into various aspects of burn wound assessment, including degree of burn, total body surface area (TBSA) involvement, and wound bed condition. They also discussed the use of tools like the Lund and Browder chart for TBSA estimation and the Republic of Indonesia Burn Assessment (RIBA) system.
Dr. Sri Hartati highlighted the significance of regular updates to burn wound assessment protocols. "Medical knowledge is ever-evolving, and our practices should reflect that. Regular discussions like these help us stay current and improve our care," she noted.
The lecturers also addressed challenges in implementing standard assessment systems, such as limited resources and varying levels of healthcare provider training. They agreed that inter-institutional collaboration and continuous education were key to overcoming these obstacles.
The event concluded with a commitment from the lecturers to advocate for a unified burn wound assessment system across Indonesia. They also pledged to incorporate their learnings into their teaching, ensuring the next generation of nurses is well-versed in best practices.
This initiative by UMM nursing lecturers underscores the importance of continuous professional development and collaboration in improving healthcare outcomes. By fostering such discussions, Indonesia’s healthcare sector can strive towards excellence in burn care.
