Afghanistan‘s Deadly Road Disasters: 116 Dead, 141 Injured in Recent Accidents

In a series of harrowing incidents, Afghanistan’s eastern and central regions have witnessed multiple road accidents, leaving a devastating toll. Over the past few days, at least 116 people have died, and 141 others injured in a total of five accidents, highlighting the persisting challenges in the war-torn country’s road safety and infrastructure.

Double Tragedy in East

Two separate road accidents in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province left 96 people dead and 99 injured. According to local officials, the first collision occurred when a bus collided with a tanker in the Shinwar district, while the second incident involved a collision between a minibus and a truck in the Khogiani district.

Middle Weg trailer Collisions

In the central Bamyan province, two bus collisions left 16 people dead and 34 injured. Reports indicate that the first collision involved three buses, while the second occurred between a bus and a trailer.

Ghazni Province Crash

In the southeastern Ghazni province, a collision between a bus and a fuel tanker resulted in 25 people dying and 12 others sustaining injuries.

The total death toll from these accidents amounts to 116, with 141 peopleleft injured, making it one of the deadliest road accident periods in recent Afghan history. The government has responded by dispatching medical teams and vehicles to transport the injured to hospitals.

Authorities have begun investigations to determine the causes of these accidents, with preliminary reports suggesting speeding, overtaking on curves, and ignoring traffic rules as contributing factors. Despite these tragedies, the Afghan Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules and exercise caution while driving, emphasizing the importance of road safety education.
