Juan Diego Flórez and Vincenzo Scalera Deliver Vocal Mastery in Evian
World-famous Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez captivated the Grange au Lac in Evian during a moving recital for Les Rencontres Musicales d’Evian. Accompanied by pianist Vincenzo Scalera, Flórez built a programme spanning Bel Canto, Italian classics, and French Romanticism. The tenor opened with Rossini, a composer he relies on to anchor his vocal stamina.

Scalera and Flórez share a deep musical bond forged over years of performing together. Scalera noted that a collaborative pianist must possess strong intuition, often anticipating the tenor’s phrasing before it happens. To replicate an orchestral expanse on a single keyboard, Scalera carefully studies the written score, assigning specific instrumental textures to different registers of the piano.
Hiroya Tsukamoto Brings Fingerstyle Guitar and Storytelling to Lake Huntington
Guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto brought his fingerstyle artistry to The Arts Nest in Lake Huntington, New York. Born in Japan, Tsukamoto moved to the United States in 2000 to study at the Berklee College of Music. His performances blend complex instrumental guitar work with spoken narratives drawn from his personal life. Recognized for taking second place at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in both 2018 and 2022, Tsukamoto has performed at prominent venues including the Blue Note in New York City, NHK Television, the International Storytelling Center, and the United Nations.
Sharmila Biswas and Odissi Vision & Movement Centre Open Jaipur Dance Conclave
Dancer, choreographer, and teacher Sharmila Biswas and the Odissi Vision & Movement Centre from Kolkata presented their production ‘Shrishti Pralay’ at the Rajasthan International Centre. The performance served as a curtain raiser for the inaugural Jaipur Dance Conclave, scheduled for November 22 and 23 at RIC.
The production explored creation, dissolution, and the cosmic cycle of life through two distinct segments. The first part, Srishti Tatva, drew from Jayadeva’s Dashavatar to examine creation through the ten incarnations of Vishnu. The second part, Dhwani-Pratidhwani, shifted toward folk traditions, depicting how rhythm and music originated from Lord Shiva. The performance concluded to a standing ovation from an audience moved by the precision and emotive power of the ensemble.
Gareth Fry Deploys d&b Sound Systems for Global Stage Productions
Sound designer Gareth Fry relied on a d&b audiotechnik sound system to support the theatrical illusions in productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Director John Tiffany mandated consistent sound quality across international stagings in London, New York, Melbourne, and San Francisco. Fry utilized d&b’s ArrayCalc software to model venue acoustics and position equipment effectively within diverse architectural layouts.
