Fifty-four Veldhoven Households Left Freezing as Heating Fails for Over Five Weeks
In a chilling situation that has left residents in Veldhoven desperately seeking warmth, a total of 54 households have been without heating for more than five weeks. The hoarding of fuel and technical issues have compounded the problem, prolonging the discomfort for families already grappling with the harsh winter weather.
"I’ve had to bundle my children in blankets just to keep them warm," complains a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. "My kids are constantly asking when our heating will be back. It’s heartbreaking."
The heating failure, occurring in the middle of one of the coldest winters in recent years, has pushed families to their limits. The lack of heating has not only made living conditions uncomfortable but also posed potential health risks, especially for the elderly and children.
"It’s like living in an icebox," laments another resident. "I’ve had to wear gloves and a hat indoors. My gezin [family] leeft in de kou," they added, translating to ‘My family lives in the cold.’
Residents have reported resorting to desperate measures to keep warm. Some have used their ovens to heat their homes, while others have been forced to rely on space heaters, putting a strain on their electric circuits. Meanwhile, many have struggled to secure adequate fuel supplies, with hoarding exacerbating the scarcity.
"We understand the frustration and desperation of our residents," says the local council. "We’re working tirelessly to resolve the issue and have prioritized our resources to restore heating as soon as possible."
