Boy, 8, Survives Five Days in Zimbabwean Wildlife Park with Lions
In an astonishing tale of survival, an eight-year-old boy has miraculously lived to tell the tale of spending five days in a Zimbabwean wildlife park, sharing the terrain with lions.
The young boy, identified only as Yeheti, found himself lost in Hwange National Park after becoming separated from his family during a visit to the park. Despite the presence of Africa’s most fearsome predators, including lions, leopards, and hyenas, Yeheti managed to evade danger and survive in the harsh wilderness.
Park officials launched a massive search operation after Yeheti’s family reported him missing. They combed the park, using tracking dogs and helicopters, but it was Yeheti’s own initiative that led to his rescue. The young boy, who had been hiding in a dense bush, heard the search party and managed to make his way towards them.
"I was scared, but I remembered what my father had told me about staying calm and quiet if I ever got lost," Yeheti recounted. "I found a big bush and hid there. I could hear the lions at night, but I was too scared to move."
Park rangers were left in awe of Yeheti’s survival skills and resourcefulness. "We’ve seen many animals survive in this park, but a child on his own is a different story," said a park official. "Yeheti’s survival is a testament to his bravery and quick thinking."
Yeheti was found dehydrated and hungry but otherwise unharmed. He was immediately taken to a local hospital for observation and reunited with his relieved family.
This remarkable story serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of teaching children basic survival skills. It also highlights the incredible biodiversity and beauty of Zimbabwe‘s wildlife parks, which attract thousands of visitors each year.
