The Swiss futsal team’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2026 are all but over after a dismal start to their campaign. A heavy 0-9 loss to Spain, followed by a 5-1 defeat in England, has left the team with an uphill battle to even secure a point. Among the lineup is the Tourain Sabaudin Ljamalari, a Swiss international since 2017, who shared his thoughts on the dire situation.
"The goal was to secure at least one point, something the Swiss team has never achieved at this level," said Ljamalari, 27, who hails from the canton of Gruyère. "Especially against England, who haven’t had a team since 2022, we felt it was an opportunity within our grasp."
However, poor communication and team cohesion appear to have contributed to their dismal performances. The Switzerland national futsal team will need to regroup and comeback strongly to have any hope of reversing their fortunes in the qualifiers. Stay tuned for updates on their progress.
