Bulgaria‘s Winter: Petrich and Sandan Skip to Greece; Snowy Christmas Awaits

Prof. Georgi Rakhev of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reveals that Bulgaria’s winter is in full swing, with temperatures and conditions in the Petričko-Sandansko field region and Drama being nearly identical. "Serres and Drama have the same climate as Petrich and Sandanski," he notes, "However, Petrich can experience and maintain lower temperatures due to isolation from the warm waters of the Aegean Sea by the Belasica and Rodopa Mountains."

As for the upcoming holidays, Rakhev predicts widespread snowfall across Bulgaria. While Sofiia and lower regions may experience rain and dampness initially, a powerful anti-cyclone from the northeast forming on December 26 and 27 will bring colder air and potential snowfall even to lower elevations. Ski resorts like Bansko, Borovets, and Pamporovo are expected to receive significant snowfall, with accumulations exceeding 0.5 meters by December 27.

Rakhev assures that despite initial drizzle, snow will be a mainstay for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, transforming Bulgarian landscapes into a winter wonderland. Stay tuned for more updates on Google News Showcase.
