The incident occurred when Reverend Paul Chamberlain was invited to speak to sixth-grade students at a school in Hemel Hempstead. During his talk, he bluntly declared, "Let’s be honest, everyone – Santa Claus doesn’t exist."
The priest went on to criticize parents for teaching their children about Santa, implying it was a waste of money and a form of deceit. This remark left several children crying and shocked their parents, who have since demanded an apology and disciplinary action against the vicar.
One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, told Daily Express, "I can’t believe a priest would do this. It’s like he’s punishing children for having innocent fun. I’m furious, and I want him to be held accountable."
The parent added, "We’re exploring our legal options. Our children have been traumatized, and we want answers and action from the church."
The pupil’s headteacher has since issued an apology to parents, stating, "We are deeply sorry for the upset caused. The church has been made aware of the incident, and we are working together to ensure such an occurrence does not happen again."
A spokesperson for the Diocese of St Albans also issued a statement, acknowledging the priest’s actions were inappropriate and expressing their support for the school and the affected families. However, they have not yet announced any disciplinary measures against Reverend Chamberlain.
