Frp Leader Sylvi Listhaug Urges Lower Taxes and Lowered Consumer Prices in 2023

Progress Party (Frp) leader Sylvi Listhaug has called for lower taxes, reduced value-added tax (VAT), and decreased fuel prices as key measures for Norway in 2023. Listhaug made these recommendations in response to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s (Labour Party) New Year’s address.

Listhaug suggested that the government should aim to "lower taxes, reduce VAT, and cut fuel prices in the new year." She argued that these steps would provide much-needed relief to Norwegian consumers grappling with rising inflation and cost of living.

"The cost of living is too high, and households are struggling," Listhaug said, emphasizing the need for action. "The government can and should do more to ease the burden on Norwegian families."

While the Prime Minister’s address touched on various topics, including the housing market and climate change, Listhaug focused her response on economic relief for consumers. She criticized Støre’s government for not doing enough to address skyrocketing costs.

"We have not seen any concrete proposals from the government to tackle the cost of living crisis," Listhaug said. "The talking points are not enough. We need action."

Listhaug’s call for lower taxes and consumer prices comes in line with the Frp’s long-standing support for lower taxation and more consumer-friendly policies. The party has also been critical of the current government’s economic policies since it took power in October 2021.
