High-Speed Chase Through Søgne and Mandal: Driver Arrested After 40-Minute Pursuit
A dramatic early morning chase unfolded in the municipality of Søgne on Friday, as police pursued a suspect in a high-speed car chase that lasted over 40 minutes. The incident began at around 2:57 AM when police attempted to pull over a vehicle in a residential area, only to have the driver speed off.
The suspect, a man in his 30s with a known criminal history, led police on a chase through the streets of Søgne and into the neighboring town of Mandal. The pursuit, which reached speeds above the legal limit, was deemed justifiable by the police due to the low traffic at that hour.
During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle hit a spike strip laid out by the pursuing officers, causing both right-side tires to deflate and eventually fall off. Despite the damage, the driver continued to evade capture, pushing his vehicle to its limits.
The pursuit ended at around 3:33 AM, nearly 40 minutes after it began, when the vehicle finally came to a stop at Øyslebø, deeper into the countryside. The driver was taken into custody, along with his passenger.
The driver, a 30-year-old man, is now suspected of driving under the influence and without a valid driver’s license. Police are still investigating the incident and will determine the passenger’s involvement.
