Breaking: Gunfight Forces Major Police Mobilization at Jesús Taracena Market
In a dramatic turn of events on Friday evening, a fierce gun battle erupted at the Jesús Taracena farmers’ market, leading to a significant police mobilization and road closures.
The confrontations began around 7:45 AM, sparking a heavy police presence in the areas surrounding the market, with avenues Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, José María Pino Suárez, and Constitución temporarily closed to traffic.
Authorities from the State’s Speakers’ Office have revealed that a shootout occurred within the market’s premises between rival factions. Security forces monitoring the zone, particularly from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSPC), heard the gunfire.
Upon arrival, police were met with gunfire from the market’s roof, prompting them to retaliate. The official report stated that three of the assailants were apprehended, wounded, and subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention. Two firearms were also confiscated.
Collateral damage from the skirmish saw neighboring businesses closing their shutters. The scene was cordoned off as personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Guard, and the State’s Attorney General’s Office (FGE) joined the operation.
Amado Nervo Street, where the wounded were evacuated, was sectioned off for some time. After the situation was brought under control, police units withdrew, and streets reopened for traffic, allowing commerce to resume.
