In a move that has left consumers scrambling for information and alternatives, major mobile operators have announced increases in their monthly subscription fees. The hike, reported to be around 2 BGN (Bulgarian Leva), comes at a time when consumers are already grappling with rising inflation and stagnant wages.
The new fees will see ‘Vivacom‘ users paying 27.98 BGN per month, while ‘Yettel‘ customers face a 12.5% increase, taking their monthly costs to 29.98 BGN. This is a significant jump from the previous fees. For some, this could mean stretching their budgets even further, as they try to accommodate the increased costs of living and mobility.
The reasons cited by the companies for this increase vary. ‘Vivacom’ has pointed to increased salaries and operational expenses as justification for the hike, while ‘Yettel’ hinted at the need to invest more in its infrastructure and services.
However, not everyone is convinced. Critics argue that the operators are abusing their market dominance to exploit consumers. They point to the lack of significant improvements in service quality or innovation that could justify such an increase.
The situation has led the Competition Protection Commission (KZP) to warn consumers that they are not obligated to accept the new terms. The commission has clarified that consumers have the right to terminate their contracts without penalties during the transition period.
Experts advise consumers to carefully review their contracts and service plans, and consider switching providers or negotiating better terms. They also urge consumers to voice their concerns and expectations to the operators, encouraging a more consumer-centric approach to pricing and services.
