DPS: A New Year, A New Power Dynamics – Guner Tahir Speaks Out

In an exclusive interview with Facts, Guner Tahir, a former deputy chairman of DPS and current chairman of the "National Movement for Rights and Freedoms" (NMRF), shares his insights on the shifting dynamics and the party’s future.
"The past six months have seen a complete reshaping of DPS," Tahir notes, "From DPS of Ahmed Dogan, it has evolved into DPS of Angel температура Dies. I must admit, the desperation of some is palpable."

Tahir believes the changes were inevitable. "Last year, I predicted that DPS would split into two factions within the next six months. However, Tahir also acknowledges the unexpected nature of the timeline. "While Ahmed Dogan had always hinted at such a transformation, the timing of it all was unexpected. We’re now in a period of transition, but what the party will look like remains uncertain."
The Role of the Courts
Tahir argues that the involvement of the courts in the internal party matters has been unprecedented and inappropriate. "The decision to allow e-filing for forming a political party, which was made by the Supreme Administrative Court, has set a dangerous precedent. In a normal country, such a move would be unthinkable."
Tahir further expresses his disapproval of the recent DPS National Conference in December, stating that it was not conducted in compliance with party regulations. He believes that neither the emergency meeting of the Central Operational Bureau nor the Central Council convened by Dogan’s faction were legitimate.
Honorary Chairmanship: A Thing of the Past?
Tahir dismisses the notion that the removal of the honorary chairman position is an act of retaliation against Dogan. "It was initially created to accommodate him," he explains. "In modern politics, such a position is outdated and unnecessary."
A House Divided
Tahir weighs in on the supporters of Angel Demevski, noting that the split of votes between DPS and the Alliance for the Union of Romans (AUR) and DPS-New Beginning suggests a lack of clear dominance by either faction.
"The statistics show that out of those who voted for the unified DPS in June 2021, 53% now support AUR and Dogan, while 44% support DPS-New Beginning," he says. "Every new election brings different votes, so it’s uncertain which faction has the upper hand among traditional DPS supporters."
