In a concerning turn of events, parents of students receiving free, nutritious meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis or MBG) in Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) have raised alarm about the quality of food distributed by the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) Noelbaki. The parents claim that the meals, which are supposed to provide essential nourishment to students, have a foul smell and are suspected to be spoiled.
Vincent, a parent whose children attend St. Yoseph Noelbaki, shared his concern, "My children told me that not only was the food smelly, but some of their friends even threw up and cried after eating it." Vincent suspects that the food was cooked in the middle of the night and left unrefrigerated, causing it to spoil. His children reportedly ate the meals around 7:00 or 8:00 AM WITA as they entered school.
The guru at St. Yoseph Noelbaki School has since instructed students not to consume food that smells spoiled. Vincent hopes that in the future, educators will check or taste the food before it is served to the students. He also urged the school and MBG providers to take extra care in preparing and distributing the meals to prevent such incidents.
However, a teacher at the school refuted the claims, stating, "There was no spoiled food distributed yesterday. The food didn’t smell bad; it was just the aroma of the vegetables that might have been strong for some children." The teacher confirmed that they had tasted the food and found nothing wrong.
Kepala SDK St. Yoseph Noelbaki, Marianus Redemtus, also denied the existence of spoiled food. He mentioned that no such complaints have been received from teachers or parents. If there were any issues, he would coordinate and consult with the food provider.
The incident serves as a reminder for schools, food providers, and parents to ensure the quality and safety of meals intended for students. Regular checks and transparent communication can help prevent such issues and guarantee that students receive nutritious, safe, and enjoyable food.
