Engineering Evolution: Inside the MMT EVO5
The MMT EVO5 represents a technical departure from previous iterations. According to MM Technology, the development team leveraged data collected from both their own Dakar entries and those of their customer teams. These insights led to significant modifications in the chassis construction and a refined suspension geometry, with engineers working directly with manufacturers to optimize shock absorber performance.
Tire technology remains a critical performance variable in rally-raid. The team confirmed a strategic partnership with Prometeon, equipping the EVO5 with the latest S02 Rallye Evo specification tires. These are designed to offer increased durability and speed over previous versions. Furthermore, the truck features an upgraded tire inflation system, allowing drivers to adjust pressure on the fly—a necessity when transitioning between soft dunes and hard-packed terrain.
Visibility and Ergonomics for Night Stages
Visibility has become a mounting concern as recent Dakar routes have included more night-time navigation. To address this, the EVO5 features an overhauled lighting system. The Road to Dakar 2027
The MMT EVO5 is scheduled to make its competitive debut at the Baja Aragon in Spain. While the new truck will be piloted by customer teams—including Italy’s ItalTrans Racing and Karel Poslední of Valtorro Unlimited—Martin Macík will maintain his tradition of competing in the proven Liaz truck, locally known as “Franta.”
Despite the arrival of the new technology, Macík continues to use the manual-transmission Liaz for training and select events. This dual-track approach allows the team to continue winning with proven machinery while simultaneously refining the EVO5 platform for future Dakar campaigns. The team has indicated that a specialized version of the new truck is being prepared for Macík himself, with a target of full integration by the 2027 Dakar Rally.
