The property, which had been listed with an asking price of $3.295 million, drew steady interest during its campaign before securing an unconditional offer from a couple who had already sold their own home.

According to Milne, while the marketing campaign generated substantial engagement, many prospective purchasers faced delays because they needed to sell their existing properties first. This market dynamic often impacts trading velocity across the real estate sector. Milne could not disclose the final sale price due to confidentiality agreements.
Industry Criticisms and the State of Home Staging
Beyond the property transaction, Malyon has recently spoken out regarding broader commercial pressures within the interior styling sector. Having established DMI Home Staging in the 1990s before stepping back from full ownership, she remains outspoken about current industry standards. Earlier in the year, Malyon criticised the proliferation of low-end staging services, arguing that operators using inferior furnishings devalue properties and create a sterile aesthetic.
“It is such a cutthroat business now. Those others are undercutting everyone – the people with the good furniture that helps sell the properties. I’ve been undercut by people who are buying s*** furniture and are devaluing a property by doing it wrong,” Malyon told OneRoof.
Despite stepping down from running her former company, Malyon occasionally takes on design commissions. Following the sale of her townhouse, she plans to distribute remaining furniture pieces among her children and retain select items for a new family bach currently under construction in Taupō.
