Bohemian FC Re-signs Striker Paddy Madden
Bohemian FC has secured the return of striker Paddy Madden, who has signed with the club until the end of the current season. The 36-year-old forward returns to Dalymount Park nearly 16 years after his departure, bringing a wealth of experience from a career that spanned over 650 first-team appearances in English football. The signing remains subject to international clearance, according to the club’s official announcement.
A Return to Dalymount Park
Madden’s professional journey began at Dalymount Park, where he made his first-team debut against Cobh Ramblers in November 2008 at the age of 18. During his initial spell with the club, he recorded 20 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions. His early accolades included a league title in 2009 and a Setanta Cup victory in 2010.
Reflecting on his return, Madden noted that he spent his formative years learning from established strikers at the club, including Glen Crowe, Jason Byrne, and Neale Fenn, under the management of Pat Fenlon. “I am delighted to be back where it all began for me in professional football,” Madden said. “Walking around Dalymount today brought back great memories.”
Career Progression in English Football
After leaving Bohemian FC for Carlisle United in January 2011, Madden established himself in the English football pyramid. Over the following years, he played for Yeovil Town, Scunthorpe United, Fleetwood Town, and Stockport County, accumulating more than 200 goals. Most recently, Madden was attached to Chesterfield and spent the previous season on loan at Accrington Stanley.
Beyond his club career, Madden earned one senior international cap for Ireland, appearing against Wales in 2013. He previously represented Ireland at the U-21 level during his first tenure at Bohs.
Managerial Expectations for the Remainder of the Season
Bohemian manager Alan Reynolds expressed confidence in the impact Madden can have on the current squad. According to Reynolds, the club was impressed by their recent conversations with the striker. “He’s coming home with the mindset that he still has something to prove,” Reynolds stated.
The manager highlighted that while the club will need to get Madden up to speed given the differences in league schedules, his leadership and experience as a former club captain will be vital. “He is a natural goalscorer, he wants to get going and he is hungry to make an impact,” Reynolds added.
