Meta Platforms saw its market capitalization jump by $192 billion on Monday as shares erupted for an 11.3% gain to close at $741.25, according to Yahoo. The historic market surge came as Meta’s new personal AI assistant, Muse, surged to the top of Apple’s App Store free charts, remaining the most downloaded free app on Monday and beating ChatGPT, as reported by Business Insider.
Meta Market Cap Soars $192 Billion as Muse App Climbs Charts
The stock rally added more than $13 billion to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth, with shares climbing another 0.2% in pre-market trading on Tuesday. According to Sensor Tower data cited by Yahoo, Muse reached 2.8 million downloads in its first 12 days across U.S. and Canadian app stores, surpassing the early adoption rate of ChatGPT, which recorded 1.3 million downloads over the same timeframe. Muse also set a new U.S. daily download record of 264,000 on September 19, marking its third straight day above 200,000.
A New Platform Strategy and Developer Ecosystem
Meta originally launched Muse on September 8 in the U.S. for adults 18 and older, rolling it out across iOS, Android, the web at muse.ai, and WhatsApp, according to Crypto Briefing. The rollout was initially delayed from an original target of April 2026 to improve safety and reliability.
Running on Meta’s proprietary Muse Spark models, the assistant operates inside isolated secure virtual machines with user-controlled permissions. Meta has kept in-app ads out of Muse for now, choosing instead to monetize through a tiered subscription model featuring a free tier, a $20 per month plan, and a $100 per month premium option.

To foster broader adoption, Meta opened Muse to outside developers through a new connector platform. This connector system allows businesses to plug their services directly into the AI agent, enabling actions such as booking flights through a travel service, managing appointments via a calendar app, or sending messages through an email service. Developers can create connectors and submit them to Meta for functional, security, and legal review alongside end-to-end testing.
Semiconductor Sector Rally and Enterprise Ambitions
The launch of the agentic AI assistant had a profound ripple effect across the broader technology hardware sector, moving chip stocks in an unusual fashion for a software release, as detailed by Crypto Briefing. AMD crossed the $1 trillion market cap threshold for the first time, Intel surged approximately 12%, and Arm Holdings popped about 17%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index climbed roughly 4.3% on September 21, exactly two weeks after Muse’s launch. Analysts noted that agentic AI workloads—which involve sequential, multi-step tasks like checking email, cross-referencing calendars, and booking restaurants—are significantly more CPU-intensive than the parallel processing typically handled by GPUs, benefiting companies like AMD and Intel.
Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney highlighted in a note that the market has been hyper-focused on enterprise AI, noting that while competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI have targeted enterprise revenue, Meta’s success with Muse provides a tangible sign of product return on artificial investment (ROAI). Meta has projected capital expenditures between $130 billion and $145 billion for 2026, driven by massive computing resources, data center expansions, and major AI infrastructure investments designed to support its long-term artificial intelligence strategy.
