Bulgaria: ‘Eastic Broadway’ Boss Aims to Boost Power Investment, But Hikes Are Imminent’

Article:

Bulgaria’s ‘Easic Broadway Bulgaria’ is facing a power predicament in the Yarlovo region, with service disruption lasting up to five days. The company’s chair, Asen Kristov, speaking on Nova TV, acknowledged the scale of the issue, stating, "Everything possible has been done. If you think this will stop, you’re fooling yourself. Nature will always surprise us."

Currently, the company has isolated individual subscribers in Lovech, a few in Troyan, and around Yarlovo affected. Despite ongoing efforts, including teams working from 5:30 AM today, resolving the issue remains challenging. According to Kristov, the culprit is the difficult terrain and fallen trees blocking the cable path, leading to a narrow 2×4-meter servitude area.

The situation is exacerbated by political interference and environmental regulations. Kristov explains, "Either green activists or electricity, we must choose." He அடucates that the real cost of power is 25-30% higher, due to these hurdles.

Despite investing over 100 million BGN last year, with plans to increase that to 200-300 million BGN, Kristov believes hikes are inevitable. "Banks will lend us the money, but it must reflect in the power price," he said, adding that the price will increase by 10%. However, he also hinted at prioritizing major cities like Sofia, which has one million subscribers, over towns like Yarlovo with merely 300.
