Town of Kyustendil Declares Day of Mourning Following Fatal Accidents
Kyustendil, Bulgaria — In a declaration issued by Mayor Eng. Ognyan Atanasov, December 30 (Monday) has been proclaimed a day of mourning across the municipality of Kyustendil in honor of the tragic deaths of 18-year-old Andrea Andonova and 48-year-old Nikolai Georgiev.
As a mark of respect, flags on all municipal buildings and public spaces will be flown at half-mast. The municipality has also announced the cancellation of all planned public celebrations and entertainment events scheduled for the same day.
Organizers of pre-arranged events that cannot be canceled are encouraged to commence with a moment of silence in memory of Andrea Andonova and Nikolai Georgiev.
Andrea Andonova lost her life in a car crash on the road from Kyustendil to the village of Yabloko in the early hours of Saturday. Her car collided with a trap, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver, aged 19, and another passenger, also 18, were injured. One victim was hospitalized at "Pirogov," with the other treated at the Kyustendil hospital.
Nikolai Georgiev, on the other hand, died in a shooting incident.
