Investigators tracked the suspect through street camera footage recorded near the site, which captured a man wheeling a large, dark-colored suitcase. International agencies including the United Kingdom National Crime Agency, Police Scotland, and United States law enforcement assisted with the investigation.
Suspect Statements and Defense Strategy in Athens Court
During initial questioning by detectives, the suspect denied killing the woman, offering a different explanation for his handling of the remains. Police officials stated that the man claimed he discovered Ross’s body inside an apartment bathroom, panicked, placed it in a suitcase, and attempted to dispose of it. Greek public broadcaster ERT reported that the suspect was born in Afghanistan and was pursuing a boxing career in Athens, though authorities have not publicly confirmed those specific career details.

Erdas noted that official coroner reports and toxicological test results had not yet been integrated into the case file.

A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive regarding the exact cause of death due to the decomposition of the body, although law enforcement officials indicated that asphyxiation could not be ruled out.
