Breaking News: Ukraine Reports Successful Defense Against Russian Raid Using ‘Iskander-M‘ Missiles and 24 ‘Shahed‘ Drones
In the early hours of December 27 (from 19:00 on December 26), Russia launched a concerted aerial attack on Ukraine, employing two ‘Iskander-M’ ballistic missiles and 24 attack drones of the ‘ Shahed’ variety, along with other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Ukrainian military, in a display of formidable resilience, managed to shoot down 13 of the attacking drones, while another 11 failed to reach their intended targets.
According to a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force (VSU), the successful intercepts occurred in several regions, including Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk. Notably, 11 enemy drones, deemed as ‘imitation’ models, were lost due to Ukraine’s robust electronic warfare and air defense capabilities, causing no significant damage.
The Ukrainian military also disclose that the missiles were launched from Russian territories in Voronezh and Kursk regions, while the drones were deployed from cities in Orel, Bryansk, and Millerovo. The VSU, along with its zonal and mobile units, effectively neutralized the incoming threat.
This developing story will be updated with more details as they become available.
