Ukraine Boosts Critical Infrastructure Defense: National Guard Gear Up with Mobile Fire Teams

In a recent interview with Interfax-Ukraine, the Commander of Ukraine’s National Guard, Alexander Pivnenko, revealed an enhanced focus on bolstering the country’s critical infrastructure protection. Piivnenko shared that the National Guard is now equipped with approximately 900 fire teams, around 500 of which are mobile units, with plans to transform the remaining ones into mobile units following the receipt of technical assistance.

Strengthening Mobile Response

The National Guard Commander expressed confidence in the capability of these mobile fire teams, stating, "We’re improving the quality of work of our mobile fire teams and we’re counting on their effectiveness." According to Piivnenko, the ultimate goal is to convert all fire teams into mobile units, increasing their "effectiveness and result-driven approach."

International Support

In addition to internal efforts, Piivnenko acknowledged receipt of international support in bolstering the country’s defenses, mentioning American assistance. "We’ve received the first batch of vehicles with interesting equipment from the American side," he said. The National Guard is currently evaluating this new system and plans to deploy it in training centers. Moreover, foreign allies are aiding in the procurement of long-range radar systems, initially designed for countering drone threats.

Integrated Air Defense System

Piivnenko also emphasized the role of these fire teams in the effective management of Ukraine’s integrated air defense system (IADS). Under the guidance of the Air Force, these fire teams are playing a crucial part in maintaining the nation’s airspace security.
