Tangerang, IDN Times – In a significant shift, Terminal 1 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will soon become the exclusive hub for low-cost carriers (LCCs). This move, announced by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, will see all LCCs currently operating from Terminal 2 relocate to Terminal 1.

"In the future, the airport for low-cost carriers will be different from the other terminals," Minister Thohir stated at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on January 1, 2025.

In addition to this change, Director General of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (API), Faik Fahmi, revealed that full-service airlines will be relocated to Terminal 3. This includes Batik Air, which has been operating from Terminal 2 since August 2, 2022. Consequently, Terminal 2 will be dedicated to umrah (hajj and umrah) flights.

"Terminal 3 will be for full-service airlines, Terminal 2 for umrah flights, and Terminal 1 for low-cost carriers," Faik explained.

According to the official Bandara Soetta website, the following LCCs will be affected by this change:

  • AirAsia Indonesia
  • AirAsia
  • Lion Air

All three airlines will now operate from Terminal 1.

Terminal 1 is currently undergoing revitalization to accommodate the shift. Although it will primarily serve LCCs, the terminal is also receiving beautification upgrades. Currently, the revitalization process is approximately 30% complete, with plans to finish by August 2025.

This move is expected to streamline operations and improve the overall passenger experience at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
