Angry Lovench Residents Protest Power Outage, Demand Compensation

Article:

Hundreds of residents in Lovench Municipality took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting a prolonged power outage during the holiday season. The demonstration, held outside the local office of the power distribution company, saw residents demanding compensation for the disruption.

The outage, which began on December 30, left many homes without electricity for several days. Some residents reported damages to electronic devices and appliances due to the power fluctuations. "I’ve lost two TVs, two refrigerators, a coffee maker, and all my lights," said Koicho Ivanov, a resident of Gorno Pavlikeni village.

Residents blocked the Sofia-Varna highway for an hour to draw attention to their plight. "The whole country has abandoned us. Without power, we don’t have water either," said Veselin Delchev from Brestovo village.

Ignet Iganev, chairman of the Association of Mayors and Mayoral Deputies in Lovench Municipality, confirmed that power had been restored to all villages after six to seven days. However, he highlighted the short window for submitting complaints to "Elektrohold" and the lack of local offices for residents to file their grievances.

Lovench Mayor Stratimir Petkov, who attended the protest, revealed that he had filed a complaint with the Ombudsman, the Minister of Energy, the regional governor, KEVR, and the director of ERM-West. He also announced plans for a collective lawsuit to support affected residents.

Protesters called for improved power quality, punishment for those responsible for the outage, and even nationalization of power distribution companies. "We want our voices heard. We want action, not just empty promises," said Temenuzhka Zheleva from Kykrina village.

The municipality estimated that over 500 households were affected, with more than 150 left without power for over four days. Residents have been urged to submit their complaints and damages reports to the municipality for further assistance.
