In Alphen aan den Rijn, a bottle and can drive has raised a commendable €775 for Stichting Tikkertje, a foundation set up for Seppe, an 11-year-old boy suffering from a life-threatening heart condition. The initiative, aimed at recycling empty bottles and cans, turned out to be a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of local schools, childcare centers, and friends and family of Seppe and his parents.
School Het Spinnewiel, kinderopvang Junis de Lapjeskat, Alphen Schittert, and many volunteers came together to collect nearly 4000 large and small PET bottles and cans. The organization extends its gratitude to Van Vliet Bouw for providing storage space and Jumbo Herenhof for accepting the recycled items.
Securing Funds for Life-saving Research
Seppe is battling restrictive cardiomyopathy, a rare genetic disease that progressively weakens his heart. In case his heart fails, a heart transplant is his only hope, but there’s a promising avenue: cardiologists at the Netherlands Heart Institute are investigating the potential of gene therapy to save children like Seppe.
To fund this critical research, Seppe’s parents established Stichting Tikkertje. The Heart Foundation has since taken over the initiative, setting up a dedicated Tikkertje fund. Each donation brings hope for Seppe and others fighting the same battle.
