Headline: Video Game Influencer’s Culiacán Home Targeted in Sinaloa‘s Ongoing Violence
Culiacán, Sin. (Jan 8, 2024.) – In a string of violent attacks, the home of an influential Mexican video game streamer was among several targeted by armed groups in the capital of Sinaloa state. The raids, reported on the morning of Jan 7, saw residences pummeled with bullets and property vandalized, including the home of the parents of social media celebrity "Markitos Toys."
The incident occurred at a two-story residence in the Barrancos neighborhood, in Culiacán’s southern outskirts. According to authorities, the dwelling was subjected to a barrage of gunfire from multiple calibers and destroyed. Elements of the Culiacán Fire Department arrived on the scene to control the blaze started by the attackers, who had reportedly destroyed the home’s entrance and windows.
Local reports indicate that this is not an isolated event. Earlier that morning, gunmen fired shots at a condominium complex in the Morelos neighborhood. Similarly, a house in the Mazatlán neighborhood was attacked, causing damage to its windows and facade.
In recent weeks, Markitos Toys, whose real name is Marco Eduardo Castro Cárdenas, had been posting on social media about his visit to Europe. However, his whereabouts at the time of the attack on his family’s residence are unknown.
These attacks come as part of an escalating trend of violence in Culiacán, where criminal organizations have been waging a brutal turf war. Authorities urge locals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
