Joe Biden Welcomes First Grandchild, Becoming America’s First Presidential Grandfather
President Joe Biden has become the first sitting U.S. president to welcome a grandchild, as his youngest daughter, Naomi Biden Neal, gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday. The joyous news was shared by the president during an official briefing on wildfires in Los Angeles.
Prior to the briefing, Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where they met their new grandson, William Brannon Neal IV. A proud Jill Biden shared a photo of the newborn with the president and herself on her Instagram account.
In a charming moment during the briefing, Biden initially announced the birth of a granddaughter before correcting himself, "A little boy." The president and first lady spent around 40 minutes at the hospital meeting Naomi, Peter Neal, and their new grandson before proceeding to the wildfire briefing.
In an interview with USA Today earlier this week, Biden expressed his anticipation of becoming a grandfather again, "I’m about to be a grandfather, Lord knows." With the birth of his first grandchild, Biden joins a growing list of U.S. presidents who have become grandparents while in office.
