Astou Pierre died after enduring more than three months of severe medical treatment following a June acid attack at her workplace in the Liberté 4 neighborhood of Dakar, according to reports in Libération. The victim, who was also known in community reports as Astou Pierre Ndiaye and worked as a cashier at the restaurant Le Fougon near the Police School, was buried at the Yoff cemetery.
The principal suspect in the attack is her former partner, identified in separate reports as Alioune Badara Gaye or Badara, who allegedly fled the country following the incident. Alioune Badara Gaye is described as a resident of the Castors neighborhood. While initial local accounts placed him in Mauritania or Morocco, current reports indicate he remains a fugitive abroad as authorities continue their search.
