A three-year-old beagle named Scooter required emergency veterinary treatment after consuming approximately 1.1kg of jelly snakes in Brisbane, according to the Animal Emergency Service Jindalee. Owners discovered a suspiciously empty bag of sweets on Monday evening and brought Scooter and her sister Jada to the clinic at roughly 8pm, according to veterinary reports.

Vets initially suspected Scooter due to her elevated weight check, though uncertainty remained regarding whether Jada had also partaken in the sweets, according to veterinary staff. Veterinary nurse manager Kate Wesche stated that the primary concern centered on the volume of sugars and potential artificial sweeteners, specifically xylitol. “Xylitol can be very toxic to dogs, causing seizures and affecting the liver,” Wesche told 1News.
