BBB Questions Oekraïense Support to Syria Amidst Dutch Struggles
The BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) hasn’t had much success resolving domestic issues, and so, it’s turning its attention abroad to kick off the new year. BBB member Henk Vermeer has posed "critical parliamentary questions" regarding the grain Oekraïne is sending to Syria, in an effort to prevent the war-torn country’s inhabitants from facing starvation.
Vermeer is taken aback by Oekraïne’s international maneuvering, questioning how this can be explained to Dutch taxpayers. He is now pressing the Minister of Foreign Affairs for answers, questioning if Oekraïne still needs or has received enough Dutch aid.
Vermeer’s criticism of Oekraïne fits a pattern. The BBB member, often linked with spreading fake news, appears susceptible to Kremlin propaganda. In October, he opposed Oekraïne’s potential NATO accession, claiming a buffer between the alliance and Russia has always existed. Yet, Russia borders several NATO countries, including Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Norway.
The BBB’s international focus comes amid domestic struggles. Despite its efforts, the party has struggled to make significant strides in tackling Dutch problems. With this new approach, they hope to make waves on the global stage.
