Title: former Harvard Law Grad Matthew Muller Faces New Rape Charges Linked to 2009 Californian Crimes

Former U.S. Marine and Harvard Law graduate, Matthew Muller, has added to his criminal rap sheet after being accused of two rape charges involving home invasions that took place in 2009. The 47-year-old is currently incarcerated in Tucson, Arizona, but the recent accusations have put him back in the spotlight for his alleged misdeeds in the San Francisco Bay Area.

According to The Washington Post, Muller broke into a woman’s home in Mountain View, California, in September 2009. Once inside, he allegedly attacked and choked the victim, who was approximately 30 years old at the time. He administered medication and threatened to rape her, but the victim managed to dissuade him from carrying out the assault. Muller later fled the scene, advising the victim to acquire a dog for protection. moins d’un mois plus tard, Muller répéta l’attaque à Palo Alto, où il attacha et bâillonna une autre femme d’environ 30 ans, l’obligea à boire du Nyquil et commença à l’agresser. La victime réussit à le persuader d’arrêter. Avant de s’enfuir, Muller offrit des conseils sur la façon de prévenir les crimes, selon le Post.

Both cases went unsolved for more than a decade until now. Muller’s latest charges could potentially result in a life sentence, tacked onto the 40 years he’s already serving for the 2015 kidnapping and rape of Denise Huskins.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen described the sheer magnitude of Muller’s alleged crimes as "cinematic." "Our goal is to ensure he is held accountable and never terrorizes anyone again," Rosen told AP.

Muller first gained notoriety in 2015 when he was identified as the culprit behind the Huskins kidnapping. He broke into the Vallejo, California, home of Huskins’ boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, in March of that year. Quinn recounted the harrowing ordeal in Netflix’s "American Nightmare" series. Muller, disguised and armed, woke the couple and forced Quinn to bind himself using restraints provided by Muller. Huskins was then blindfolded and transported to a South Lake Tahoe vacation home where Muller sexually assaulted her on two occasions before abandoning her in Huntington Beach, some 500 miles away.

Authorities eventually apprehended Muller after he tried to pull off a similar heist in Dublin, California. His dropped smartphone led investigators to search his family residence in South Lake Tahoe, where they discovered crucial evidence linking Muller to the Huskins kidnapping.

Muller pleaded guilty to Huskins’ kidnapping in 2016 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. In 2022, he received an additional 31-year sentence for two counts of forced rape.

With Muller’s latest charges, the community seeks justice for the victims and aToday, the victims and communities impacted by Muller’s alleged crimes hope that justice will finally be served, providing long-overdue closure and ensuring that Muller can never again harm others."
