Heads Up: Colder Weather and Snow Expected as New Year’s Eve Nears
Got your New Year’s Eve plans all set? Hold your horses, as the weather might throw a wrench into your celebrations. According to meteorologist Alexander Skeltved from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the mild weather we’ve been enjoying is giving way to a cold snap, with snow expected to make an appearance.
Mild Weather Comes to an End
For the past while, we’ve been basking in mild weather caused by low-pressure systems offshore, bringing in warm, humid air from the south. This unusual warmth has brought above-average temperatures and substantial rainfall, especially in Nordland and coastal areas of Troms. However, Snow has also made an appearance in Finnmark and Troms.
Cold Weather on the Way
But the party’s over. Skeltved warns that the low-pressure systems are shifting east, and a northerly wind will bring in the cold. This switch will happen over the weekend, so expect temperatures to plummet by Sunday.
Snow on New Year’s Eve?
So, will the snow arrive in time to dim your New Year’s Eve fireworks display? Skeltved is uncertain, but he assures us that the mild weather is history, and a stint of minus degrees is on its way. As for New Year’s Eve, it’s a mixed bag. While some areas might see snow, others could escape unscathed. Just keep an eye on the skies, and don’t forget your jacket!
