Blaze Engulfs Colchón Factory in Godoy Cruz; Neighborhood Evacuated, Traffic Disrupted
Article:
A major fire broke out late Tuesday evening at a colchón factory in Godoy Cruz, spreading rapidly due to the inflammable material used in manufacturing. The blaze led to a significant response from local emergency services, including multiple volunteer fire brigade units and police from Cuartel Central.
The inferno began around 9 PM at the Fábrica Universal Polieter, located at the intersection of calles Belgrano and Dorrego, north of the departmental plaza. The flames quickly engulfed the entire building, given the highly flammable materials used in colchón production, raising alarms among authorities.
Bomberos from Guaymallén, Luján de Cuyo, and Godoy Cruz, as well as police from the Mendoza provincial headquarters, rushed to the scene. They worked tirelessly to contain the fire, which also affected neighboring properties. As of 10 PM, no injuries had been reported, and nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.
The fire led to temporary road closures on calles Balcarce, Dorrego, Belgrano, and Lencinas while emergency services worked to extinguish the blaze.
