Tennis Legend Boris Becker Mourns Mother’s Sudden Death
Tennis icon Boris Becker is grappling with a heavy heart as he confronts the sudden passing of his mother, Elvira. The 89-year-old matriarch was found lifeless in her home, just days before what would have been Becker’s 57th birthday.
"Mum, you gave me life 57 years ago today and made me the strong man I am today. I owe you everything," Becker eulogized on Instagram, expressing the immense sorrow and gratitude he feels towards his late mother.
Throughout his tumultuous life, filled with scandals and legal troubles, Becker’s mother Elvira was his rock. From supporting him through a surprise baby with a Russian model in a Moscow restaurant, to sticking by him during fraud accusations and a 22-month prison sentence for bankruptcy offenses, Elvira stood solidly by her son’s side.
"Mamma was always there for him, always," said a close family friend. "She devoted her life to Boris after his father passed away, providing unwavering love and support, no matter what."
He added, "She had a way of turning moments of crisis into moments of laughter. She was an extraordinary woman."
In her final months, Becker’s mother lived with her son in Miami, Florida, where she was cared for by a private nurse, after suffering a minor stroke in late 2021.
"She was the heart of our family," Becker mourned. "I don’t know what I’m going to do without her."
