Alt Title: Bulgaria‘s Korneilia Ninova Calls for VAT Reduction on Bread, Criticizes Gov’t Budget Delay, and Launches New Political Movement
In an interview on ‘Delnici’ on ‘Evrokratas TV’, Bulgarian politician Korneilia Ninova voiced her concerns about the state of the country’s economy and the delayed state budget for 2025. Ninova, a prominent figure in Bulgarian politics, emphasized the need for decisive action to tackle the growing economic crisis and called for a reduction in Value-Added Tax (VAT) on bread.
"VAT on bread must be abolished," Ninova stated firmly. "We managed to avoid this in the past, which helped prevent the price of bread from rising. It’s unacceptable for a loaf of white bread to cost 4 leva. I’m calling into question the role of speculation – during the price increase, all control organs should have been on alert."
Ninova criticized the lack of a state budget for 2025, asserting that it poses a significant problem. "Unlike Kiril Petkov, I believe there is a problem. A budget concentrates all the state’s policies," she explained. Ninova also highlighted the importance of state regulation in sectors such as healthcare, education, and social policy, asserting that not everything should be left to the free market.
The former economy minister stressed the need for action to support pensioners and to revive the struggling economy. "The economic crisis is intensifying, it’s not just a local issue, it’s affecting Germany and Europe too. Industries are closing down, and we’re part of the same economic chain. The only thing sustaining our economy now is consumption, and that will crumble under these rising prices. We need action, specific measures, and a concrete economic plan, especially for small and medium-sized businesses," Ninova warned.
Ninova dismissed the possibility of forming a government as ‘expected,’ given the ‘falsified elections’ and the lack of meaningful dialogue among politicians. She accused the current political elites of being more concerned with dividing positions and money than with addressing the people’s needs.
In a surprising announcement, Ninova revealed the registration of a new political movement, ‘Naprednato Nacionalno Dvizhenie ‘Nepokornai Balgaria’ (Progressive National Movement ‘Unyielding Bulgaria’). The movement will evolve into a political party, positioned in the left-centre, with a focus on family values, defending children from gender ideology, and a clear economic and social program.
"The aim of our movement is to provide an authentic alternative – not just for the active voters, but also for those who have given up on the political process. We strive to be a team of honest people who see politics not as a business for personal gain, but as a way to serve the people," concluded Ninova.
