Bandung: Singaporean Tourists Forgive Assailants, Case Dropped After Apology Video

Bandung, Indonesia – In a turn of events that shocked the tourism industry, Singaporean tourists Joanna and Darien have decided not to pursue legal action against their assailants in the high-profile Braga Street incident, after the perpetrators issued a heartfelt apology video. The update was announced by the Chief of the Bandung Regional Police, Kombes Pol Budi Sartono, who expressed relief at the resolution.

"In the latest developments, we were contacted by the Singaporean Embassy today, informing us that the victims have decided not to continue with the case," said Budi in a press conference held today (05/01/2024). "The perpetrators have shown remorse and provided an apology, which the victims have accepted."

The incident, which took place on December 29, 2024, involved three local teenagers, identified by their initials RF, RM, and MCA, harassing the Singaporean tourists while they were recording a vlog along the historic Braga Street. The perpetrators caught the attention of the tourists due to their curiosity regarding their English-language vlog content, according to Budi’s statement.

While RF and RM admitted to their involvement in the harassment, MCA was acquitted as he did not participate in the incident. RF admitted to making obscene gestures at the victims, while RM was found to have accidentally touched the victim’s bag. The touching was initially misconstrued as an inappropriate act.

Budi seized the opportunity to remind Bandung’s residents and visitors to uphold the city’s reputation as a premier tourist destination. "Let this incident serve as a lesson for all," he cautioned. "We must ensure that Bandung remains a safe and welcoming city for visitors from all corners of the world."
