Nearly fifty dog owners have voiced their concern to the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), reporting their pets have fallen ill after chewing on Barkoo brand chews. Tragically, a spokesperson for the regulatory body has confirmed that 13 dogs have succumbed to the suspected illness, following recent reports by the Dutch daily, AD.

The affected pets’ health deteriorated after they ingested the popular, poultry-based chews manufactured by Barkoo. Owners have reported symptoms such as gastrointestinal upset, lethargy, and in some cases, seizures. Those impacted are urging fellow pet parents to exercise caution and monitor their dogs closely if they have Barkoo chews at home.

"The NVWA is taking these reports very seriously and has launched an investigation," said the spokesperson. "We are working closely with Barkoo and other relevant parties to identify the cause and prevent further incidents."

As pet owners await the outcomes of the investigation, many are opting to remove all Barkoo products from their homes and seek alternative chew toys for their furry companions. In the meantime, the NVWA advises keeping an eye out for any suspicious symptoms and contacting a veterinarian if your dog exhibits unusual behavior.
