The Konzerthaus Klagenfurt is currently filled with music as it hosts the Kärntner Landesjugendsingen. A total of 64 choirs, comprising approximately 2,500 singers, are performing to demonstrate their skills through Wednesday.
A Path to Europe’s Largest Youth Choir Competition
The event is a joint initiative of the state of Carinthia (Land Kärnten) and the Education Directorate for Carinthia. This state-level competition serves as a critical qualifying round for the Bundesjugendsingen in Linz.
Choirs that achieve the best results may earn the opportunity to represent Carinthia at the competition in Linz, which is regarded as the largest youth choir competition in Europe.
The Pedagogical Impact of Choral Singing
Bildungslandesrat Peter Reichmann highlighted that the benefits of singing together extend far beyond the stage. He noted that musical education contributes significantly to cognitive development while strengthening creativity, concentration, and team skills.

While certificates are awarded to recognize high levels of achievement, Reichmann emphasized that the lasting value lies in the experiences, the encounters, and the collective joy of singing.
Competition Structure and Regional Reach
The 2026 Jugendsingen is organized across three distinct levels. While regional, valley, and district events focus on involving all schools through song, dance, and music, the state event at the Konzerthaus is conducted specifically as a “Wertungssingen” (competitive singing).
In the weeks leading up to this event, 19 district youth singing competitions took place across the region, spanning from Obervellach to Lavamünd.
Bildungslandesrat Reichmann expressed gratitude to the teachers, directors, choir leaders, the jury, and the organizational team for their efforts in preparing the children and youth for these events.
The Landesjugendsingen is being streamed live by the state press service on kaernten.tv.
