Triple Tragedy in Norway: investigate into the Nes killings concluded, case sent to higher prosecutors

Nearly a year after the shocking triple murder in Nes, Norway, the police investigation has been completed. Victoria Nordli Korslund (24), Katrine Nordli Korslund (30), and her eleven-month-old daughter, Emily Korslund Andresen, were found dead in their family home in Skogbygda, Nes, on January 23, 2021. The women’s father and the baby’s grandfather, Steinar Korslund (65), was also found deceased in the house. He was charged with the murders before taking his own life.

The case has now been sent to higher prosecution authorities, where it is expected to be closed due to the suspect’s death, confirmed Anne Marie Hustad, the police’s special advisor, to Dagbladet.

Despite extensive investigations, there are no clear motives behind the horrific act. "The investigation hasn’t yielded any clear motives for the incident," stated Gunhild Lærum, the defense lawyer for Steinar Korslund, in an interview with the same publication. Efforts to obtain comments from the support lawyers Hege Salomon and Ole-Knut Bakke Hansen regarding the latest developments in the case have been unsuccessful so far.

Earlier reports confirmed that Steinar Korslund himself called the emergency services on that fateful January day, revealing that he had killed his daughters and granddaughter and set fire to the house before planning to end his own life. The 40-second call was the only communication with authorities before his death.

Several weapons were found at the scene, including a hunting rifle found beside the family patriarch. It was reported that Korslund was an active hunter with access to legally registered firearms.
