Chaos at Arlanda: Total Gridlock

Title: Arlanda Airport Chaos: Technical Malfunction Causes Mile-Long Baggage Queue on Busiest Travel Day

Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s busiest air hub, was thrown into chaos on Christmas Eve as a technical glitch in the baggage system caused massive delays, with some queues stretching up to 500 meters. The malfunction occurred during the peak travel season, leaving hundreds of passengers facing significant wait times just days before Christmas.

Beatrice, a frustrated traveler heading to Thailand, described the scene as "complete chaos." She arrived at Arlanda early on Juleaften (Christmas Eve) only to find herself tucked into a serpentine queue that snaked for hundreds of meters. "There was no information, no one seemed to know what was happening. We even saw business passengers who had checked in earlier being pushed back in the queue," she told Swedish daily Expressen.

Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet cited another passenger who observed an increase in tension as departure times approached. "People were getting more and more anxious the closer their flights got. Some had already started calling their airlines to check if their flights would still depart as scheduled," they reported.

Swedavia, the state-owned company that operates Arlanda Airport, attributed the gridlock to a technical failure in the baggage system. In response, all checked baggage was temporarily handled manually via special baggage lanes, exacerbating the already overwhelming situation.

In a silver lining, some passengers commended Swedavia for their handling of the situation. Sofia Janhans, en route to Goa, India, noted, "We received good information. I think they handled it well."

Despite the holiday travel rush and substantial inconvenience, most passengers appeared to accept the situation, understanding that these incidents are unfortunately inevitable in the complex world of air travel.
