Breaking News: Union Tepito Gang Members Open Fire on Intelligence Agents in Mexico City‘s Merced Neighborhood
In a brazen attack on the eve of Christmas, members of the notorious La Unión Tepito gang targeted intelligence agents in Mexico City’s Merced neighborhood. The gun battle resulted in the death of one suspect and the arrest of three others, according to police reports.
The incident unfolded as agents from the direction of investigation of delinquencies were conducting surveillance in the Merced neighborhood. They spotted a heavily built man armed with a firearm crossing the street. As the man noticed the police presence, he entered a nearby tenement and discarded his weapon.
In the tense minutes that followed, the suspect alerted his accomplices who were reportedly guarding a drugselling point. One of the accomplices, later identified as José Luis N, attempted to assault the officers, but their quick reflexes enabled them to repel the attack and apprehend the suspects.
The ensuing chaos left one member of La Unión Tepito deceased; paramedics from Samu pronounced him dead at the scene. Two firearms, marijuana, methamphetamine, and a substantial amount of cash were seized from the crime scene.
The arrested individuals were identified as Eduardo N, Arturo N, and Yosmairo N. They were subsequently transferred to the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office along with the seized weapons, drugs, and money. Additional investigations revealed that the suspects were also involved in extorting local business owners in the area.
