First Shift Meteorologist for Vervarslinga Reports Unsettled Weather Ahead for Western Norway
The lull in the storm that brought a cool, clear Christmas Eve to Western Norway is about to end, according to the first shift meteorologist at Vervarslinga, Hanne Beate Skattør. Get ready for a significant change in the weather pattern, as a warming trend and increased precipitation are on the way.
Starting Tuesday, temperatures are set to surge by 8 to 9 degrees Celsius, and that’s not all. Skattør warns of stronger winds and substantial rainfall, kicking off with a wet Christmas morning. "We’re expecting 20 to 40 millimeters of rain, with temperatures reaching around 10 degrees Celsius in the lowlands," she says.
This wetter, warmer, and windier weather pattern is expected to dominate Bergen‘s forecast for the coming week. While residents within the city limits won’t experience much of a change, those venturing out should stay informed about localized weather conditions.
Stay Alert for Road Conditions During Travel
Parts of Southern Norway have been issued yellow alerts due to icy road conditions, as mild weather moves in combined with rain. Skattør explains, "We’re looking at a few degrees above zero, even at the highest mountain passes. When the rain starts falling, previously snowy or icy roads will become slippery."
Travelers should remain particularly cautious on Christmas Day and parts of Wednesday, especially in remote areas prone to inclement weather. Safe travels, and stay tuned to the latest weather updates!
