"Clearing the Way: Maintaining Bulgaria’s Highest Mountain Passes"

Headline: Blizzards Unleash: Heavy Machinery Tackles Metres-Thick Snow on Troyan-Karnare Pass

Subheading: As snowfall threatens to shut off the pass once again, emergency crews mobilize powerful snow-clearing machines to reopen the vital link between Troyan and Karnare.

The fierce snowstorm that swept through Bulgaria over the holidays has left a trail of destruction, with the Troyan-Karnare pass buried under a mountain of snow. The pass has been closed since Christmas, trapped under a 2-meter thick snow blanket. With fresh snowfall threatening to prolong the closure, emergency crews have geared up their heavy machinery and are retaliating against the blizzard.

Among the fleet of formidable snow-clearing machines is the powerful, tank-like rotorsnowplows. These robust machines are Bulgaria’s last line of defense against extreme snowfall, and are often called into action for the most challenging snow-clearing operations in the country. Today, they are being deployed at the Troyan-Karnare pass to shatter the resilient snow walls blocking the path.

An isolated snow-clearing rotorsnowplow is advancing towards the northern end of the pass, joined by a bulldozer to tackle the impenetrable snow drifts. The powerful duo is poised to challenge the 2-meter thick snow walls, compacted by the frigid temperatures and whipping winds.

As winter’s icy grip on the pass remains unbroken, local authorities continue to advocate for a permanent solution. The installation of snow protection barriers in the highest sections has been proposed for years, but the project has yet to be greenlit.

"The region has been calling for a solution for many years, but despite the persistent requests from mayors and regional governors, the project has not progressed," said Donka Mihaylova, mayor of Troyan. However, with the latest budget law allocating £15 million for a long-overdue terrain inspection, hopes are high that the project will finally take off.

Failure to implement the snow protection barriers will leave the pass susceptible to regular closures, diverting traffic onto lengthy detours and placing an unnecessary financial burden on businesses. Let’s hope that the rotorsnowplows’ relentless efforts are bolstered by a decisive solution to winter’s persistent siege on the Troyan-Karnare pass.
