Columbus residents have been warned by the Columbus Division of Police Property Crimes Bureau about a recent “distraction burglary.” A homeowner was targeted by thieves who pretended to be tree service workers.
How the Burglary Occurred
According to police reports, one suspect, wearing a high-visibility safety vest, approached the homeowner’s door and claimed he was there to remove trees from the backyard. Whereas this suspect engaged the homeowner outside, a second individual entered the home without being noticed.
Once inside, the second suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash, and jewelry. Both suspects then fled the scene.
