Attention, Parents: Frogn Municipality Urges Responsibility on New Year’s Eve
As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, it’s common for many to enjoy celebrations with friends or raise a champagne glass at home. However, Frogn municipality is reminding parents to take their responsibility seriously, ensuring the safety and well-being of the young ones, especially during the festive season.
Frogn kommunes’ concern, first shared on their Instagram page, comes after reports of unsupervised youth engaging in risky behaviors, such as underage drinking and drug use, during previous New Year’s Eve celebrations. Drøbak Velf, a local organization, even decided to cancel this year’s fireworks display due to past incidents involving intoxicated youth causing disturbances and engaging in physical altercations.
"Alcohol debut and drug abuse are among several concerns that arise at such gatherings," the municipality warning reads. The call to action is clear: parents should communicate with each other about their children’s whereabouts and plans over the New Year’s weekend. They also urge parents to be role models and leaders, making informed decisions that prioritize the safety and health of their young ones.
"It’s crucial to keep an open dialogue with our children, especially around the holidays," suggests local youth counselor, Anne Larsen. She advises parents to offer support and guidance instead of being overly restrictive. "We need to foster a climate of trust, understanding, and responsibility."
As parents gear up for the New Year’s festivities, let’s remember to prioritize our children’s safety and happiness. After all, a joyous celebration is best enjoyed knowing our loved ones are secure and cared for.
