Makassar Police Arrests 19 Suspects in UIN Alauddin Fake Money Case
Makassar, CNN Indonesia — The number of suspects in the campuses of UIN (Islamic University of Indonesia) Alauddin’s counterfeit money case has increased to 19, with the arrest of a prominent businessman and politician, ASS.
"Currently, we have 19 individuals officially named as suspects," said Gowa Police Chief AKBP Reonald Simanjuntak on Sunday (29/12).
Two other suspects are still at large. "We are continuing to pursue them," he added.
ASS, a businessman and politician, is believed to be a key figure and a potential financier in the case. He was later taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Makassar after his health condition deteriorated.
"Mr. ASS was admitted to the hospital due to his history of heart and prostate problems," explained Simanjuntak.
However, the police chief could not yet confirm ASS’s exact role in the UIN Alauddin counterfeit money factory case.
"We will continue to investigate and interrogate him as a suspect," he said.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
